In personal finance, there are two words that starts with the letter ‘B’. One is the budget and the other is bankruptcy. You will have to try one or the other. If you follow budgeting you may not have to file bankruptcy. But, if you fail to make a proper budget, one day your debts may grow out of your control. Then, you may have to file bankruptcy. Burying oneself in debt is a thing that almost all dread, but it is only few who take real stance to avoid getting buried in debt. Yes, there are different debt relief options like credit card debt consolidation, debt settlement and debt management and so on; but you need to follow a budget to stay out of debt.

The budget basics

In order to create a proper budget, you will be required to know the basics of budgeting. The budget basics will be:

• Understand the importance of budgeting – In order to create a proper budget, you will have to understand the importance of budgeting. You will have to understand that budgeting is the only and most important step that you can take towards becoming debt free. This is because, budgeting helps you to keep a track of your expenses based on your actual income.
• Be true to yourself – While preparing a budget, you will have to be true to yourself. That is, you should not try to manipulate the income and expenses in any way. This is going to create problems with your personal finance. So, better be true to yourself.
• Break expenses into categories – It is essential for you to break down expenses into different categories. It will have to be mainly two categories – static and variable expenses. For example, there are some expenses that you are required to make on a constant basis every month. However, there are some expenses too that can spring up once in three months or in weeks like birthday parties, office parties and so on.
• Analyzing the budget – Another thing that you will have to consider is analyzing your budget. You will have to keep in mind that it is extremely important for you to constantly analyze your budget from time to time. This is important because financial position is not static.
• Modifying the budget – Along with the need to analyze the budget, it is equally important to modify it. This is going to help you adjust the budget according to your changing affordability.

Budgeting is the basic of all of your financial planning and future. So, try and prepare a budget based on your income and expenses.

I had to put together one of these for a proposal for college and it took me quite a while as I couldn’t find any tutorials for OpenOffice. I wound up doing it on a windows PC with excel which is something I never like to have to do. I was able to apply how it was done to open office after I’d done it though so I put together this tutorial for anyone that winds up stuck as I was. All the best, I hope that this video helps you.
